Sometimes I believe, actually all the time, that just like people, animals comes into our lives because they are just supposed to. Sometimes we find them, and other times they find us. Well, Mr. Man found us. He kept coming to our front porch, and being the cat lovers my husband Doug and I are, we would go outside to play with him. He was very loving and not at all afraid. When it came time to say goodbye he would try to come in the house with us. Eventually we gave in, letting him come in for short amounts of time. We assumed he had an owner, seeing he was wearing a collar, but he always seemed hungry, (he was a little on the thin side) & also wanted our affection, which we were all too eager to give.
After about a month of this we finally started to feed him. He ate like he was starving, and we no longer had to shoo him off the kitchen counter. He was very content with us and started to stay longer ,and would sleep on the couch sometimes for hours. At this point Doug and I would have been heartbroken if he did have an owner, but he was now spending all his time with us. Finally, we let him spend the night. That was back in November of last year, and he has been with us ever since. We just assumed that he may have been abandoned.
Of course, now that he has weaseled his way into our home and in our hearts, he has turned out to be quite the finicky and demanding one and like a child will do bad things just to get attention, as if he doesn’t get enough already. We wonder what happened to that lovable & affectionate little one we once knew. I believe he wormed his way in under false pretenses and I think he knew what he was doing all along. He has become quite the character. Isn’t that a cat for you?
We took him to the Vet in January to be neutered and we were told he was about a year old. So we hope to have many happy years ahead of us with Mr. Man. We sure do love him.
Oh, and if you have seen the movie Misery, you’ll know from where we got his name. This photo was taken Oct. 13, 2007
